Shakuhachi (A Kind of Bamboo Flute) and Its Cover by Sunayama Gosei via The Met Museum
Shakuhachi Group Class at Daiyuzenji
We’re delighted to welcome Trevor West for a new group shakuhachi class. Classes meet on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month, beginning Thursday, February 19, from 6 PM–7 PM. The class is ongoing, and newcomers are welcome to join at any point.
The shakuhachi is a traditional Japanese bamboo flute historically used in Zen practice as a form of “blowing meditation” — a path of breath, focus, and presence. Playing cultivates deep breathing, attentive listening, and a calm, grounded mind.
Flutes are available to borrow, or bring your own if you have one.
