Within the Zen tradition, Rohatsu sesshin commemorates the Buddha's enlightenment and is traditionally regarded as the most demanding and rigorous meditation retreat of the year.
Sesshin is a concentrated period of training, a mix of practices to “gather the heart-mind." It focuses on zazen but includes calligraphy, short periods of mindful work in the zendo, formal temple-style meals (all vegetarian), dharma talks, and individual meetings with our teacher.
Sesshin is not suitable for total beginners, although practitioners with some experience from other communities are welcome to join us. If you are unsure whether you're ready for sesshin, please email us to discuss.
Experienced sitters are, of course, welcome.
